Surfing In Spain

By: Michael J Lee

When select a location to base your surfing holiday you need to take into consideration which ocean you want, but also the season in which you plan on visiting Spain. The Atlantic coastline in spring for example will offer an environment only suitable for experienced surfers. The colder waters and unpredictable weathers will cause choppy water that a beginner should not even think about attempting to surf.

If you are a complete beginner in terms of Surfing in Spain then look out for a surfing school along the Spanish coasts. They are out there and if you can find them you will be able to learn how to surf from experienced instructors. Usually you learn on the beach before taking to the waters, and you are taught all the basic control and balancing techniques to stay upright on the surfboard for as long as possible. The prices of learning how to surf will vary among the different groups that offer lessons, so it is always a good idea to have a shop about looking for the best deal over accepting the first one you come across.

Experienced surfers who visit Spain and do not have a surf board can usually find a surf shop that will hire out equipment and charge on an hourly to daily basis. Of course if you are able to bring your own surfboard along with you on your travels then the cost of Surfing in Spain is zero. Spanish surf shops usually offer the top of the range branded equipment just like many English surf shops, so anything you might of forgot can be purchased out in Spain.

If surfing is too difficult for you to grasp then why not try a close alternative such as Windsurfing. Windsurfing is a very close relative to surfing, and is a wind sport. The surfboard is effectively modified to have a sail attached so that you have more control over direction without falling over. The main difference between the two water sports in Spain is that with surfing you need the waves and not necessarily any wind, and windsurfing the waves are not essential, however the wind is important.

When coming to Spain for a Surfing holiday in Spain then be sure to check out La Manga Club. Down on the coast is Murcia of which has the Mediterranean Sea and the climate that goes with it for a perfect Surfing in Spain holiday.
